Patriots Buried in Louisiana
The Louisiana Society is attempting to locate and report the graves of all Patriots buried in our state. Anyone with knowledge of a Patriot buried in Louisiana that is not listed is asked to contact the chapter nearest the gravesite or Tony L. Vets at tonyvets@bellsouth.net
One of the primary missions of the Sons of the American Revolution is to locate and properly mark the graves to those who we recognize as Patriots of the American Revolution. As you can imagine, this is a daunting task. To do this, we have used and continue to use various sources to find where known Patriots were believed to have died. With this as a starting point, church and cemetery records, as well as other trusted sources are consulted to attempt to find the burial place of the Patriot.
This is an ongoing project that falls under the Patriot Index and Revolutionary War Graves Committee of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution.

Patriots Buried in St. Louis No. 1 and parts of St. Louis No. 2, New Orleans, Louisiana
In an effort to locate the burial places of patriots of the American Revolution, Piercy J. Stakelum, Jr, member of the George Washington Chapter, SAR and his wife, Shirley V. Stakelum, member of the New Orleans Chapter, DAR, set out on a project to locate the tombs of patriots whose graves could be marked.
They started with St. Louis Cemeteries Nos. 1 and 2, as these would be likely places to start because of the age of the cemeteries. They planned to return to the cemeteries and finish the survey in 1999, but unfortunately, Mr. Stakelum died in January 1999. Shirley assembled what they had. It was later indexed by Katherine Chamberlain, DAR.
